Enigma: A Veteran's Quest for Truth is a memoir of the author's experiences as he was impinged by the activities of the United States military. The experiences noted span the eighty year time period of the author's life. This period covers World War II, the Korean Conflict, The Berlin Crisis, Vietnam, and the military altercations in the Middle East during the last ten years. The loss of three cousins during the bombing of Pearl Harbor resulted in the binding of my family into a unity of purpose. Defeat the axis powers! That bombing also unified the people of the United States and their allies into a cohesive unit with the same purpose. Defeat the axis powers! Patriotism resulted in the author voluntarily joining the National Guards when he became old enough to do so. This resulted in his being placed on active duty during the Berlin Crisis. What followed became a mystery that took fifty years to unravel. Because other veterans were caught in the same conundrum, the author's experiences unlikely will have applicability to many veterans in addition the author.

About the Author
In addition to the author's military activities as reported in this book his primary occupation was as an educator. Upon the receipt of his bachelor's degree, he worked for the Milwaukee Public School System. He taught fi rst at North Division Junior and Senior High School as an English and social studies teacher. He then transferred to Kosciusko Middle School where he developed a program in remedial reading. During this time he completed a master's degree. He then embarked on the pursuit of a PhD at the University of Wisconsin in its Department of Educational Psychology. Following his completion of his PhD degree, he taught at the State University at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Indiana State University, and Marquette University in the City of Milwaukee. While at Indiana he accepted a one year post-doctoral fellowship at the Wisconsin Research and Development Center, Madison, Wisconsin. His publications consisted of twenty-one articles, eleven monographs, one book, one chapter in a book, one book review, and one abstract. At Marquette University he directed fi fty-seven dissertations and twenty-one master essays. He was also active as a board member at Marquette's Center for Equal Employment Opportunities sponsor by The Law Enforcement Assistances Administration of The United States Justice Department. Lastly, he received grants from the United States Department of Education in an amount of about one half million dollars.
